Project
Summary Sheet
Project Objective:
Automate Bulk Material Blending Process
Project Summary:
 |
12
dry-material bins filling a bulk batch bag via a material conveyor; each
material bin includes: 4 load
cells, removable and individually identified containers, pneumatic vibrators
and pneumatic slide gates (with bulk and dribble positions) |
 |
 |
PC-based
blending recipe maintenance system (VisualBasic) in the QA office
permits recipe add/edit/delete including ingredient names, proportions
(as a %), min/max batch tolerances, and downloading new recipes to the
shop floor on demand |
|
 |
PLC-based
(Omron) automatic batching system with operator touchscreen, including
a pre-check of bins for required ingredient weights, automatic bin
discharge, conveyor operation and final bulk bag weight |
|
 |
Automatic
production data collection with upload to the QA office PC; a query screen
permits selection of actual batch data by user-defined time range and/or
recipe, and export to an Excel spreadsheet for graphing and reporting |
| Economic Summary: |
 |
|
 |
Reduced
manufacturing cost thru smaller workforce, shortened batching times,
and elimination of manual data recording |
|
 |
Improved
quality thru more accurate ingredient measurements and more consistent
(repeatable) batching |
|
 |
Improved
quality thru automatic production data collection to support problem
analysis |
