Summary Sheet
Project Objective:
Upgrade Fill Line Control System
Project Summary:
 |
A
major pharmaceutical supplier required control system upgrades to a
Calumatic aseptic filling line which was experiencing operational
difficulties. The system also
used obsolete components for which replacement parts were unavailable. |
 |
 |
The
underlying control architecture and application software was retained
while upgrading many older components.
This minimized cost, lost production time and system
revalidation requirements while allowing for specific improvements in
machine function. |
|
 |
The
system is built on the Gespac G96 bus running the Microware OS9
operating system. The
upgrade added TCP/IP ethernet capability to the system which can be
used for machine servicing and backup of recipes and other data that
is modified periodically. |
|
 |
Thorough
testing and validation of the upgraded system also identified and corrected
several field wiring and electrical noise problems that had historically
caused significant downtime. |
| Benefits: |
 |
|
 | Higher
productivity through improved machine uptime |
|
 | Long-term
viability of the facility through availability of replacement parts
and improved performance |
|
 |
Improved
maintenance and service capabilities through better documentation,
monitoring facilities, and understanding of machine function by
maintenance personnel |
|
 | TCP/IP
ethernet connectivity can be interfaced to the company LAN to
automatically report and archive production and setup information |
